JJ THE ARTIST

Jordan Jones, a.k.a. JJ the Artist, was born and raised in New Britain, CT. Growing up, he was always naturally creative, winning multiple art contests from Elementary up until High School. He began to take his craft seriously in college, after changing his major from Math Education to Fine Arts at the end of his Freshman year. He graduated from the University of Connecticut in 2012 with a degree in Fine Arts. After earning his degree, he worked multiple jobs, including a couple graphic design jobs. It wasn’t until 2015 that Jordan began painting and displayed in a show for the first time.

Since then, he has done many shows in Connecticut as well as New York, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Los Angeles and Miami. His art has allowed him to meet and present paintings to multiple celebrities including DJ Khaled, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, George Springer, Dave East, Jacquees, Gunna and more. Jordan also has his own events. His staple event, BAM (a Blend of Art and Music) was held this year for the 5th year in a row on October 5th in his hometown New Britain.

Jordan’s style is realistic yet expressive. A lot of his work is portraits of well-known figures and animals, though he often ventures into other subjects and develops his own concepts. He even has a few abstract pieces. One thing that makes his work stands out is the way he captures the subject’s personality through the eyes and makes the viewer feel like the subjects is looking right at them, ready to walk out of the canvas.

Jordan is now making a living as a part-time graphic designer as well as working at an after school program in his hometown. He continues to work as a freelance artist and graphic designer, creating commission portraits and paintings, logos, flyers and more. He also developed his own clothing brand, Black León Clothing, in March 2017. You can view his collections at blackleonclothing.com.

More recently, he has developed the Culture Card Collection, a spin on the original Pokemon Card Game, using rappers and hip hop culture as the content. He has done over 30 rappers including Nipsey Hussle, J Cole, Max B, Cardi B, The LOX, and many more. JJ the Artist has even created two complete decks that you can actually play with as well as a deck boxes, a playing mat, and game coins. You can see more on the website culturexcards.bigcartel.com.
